[Personal resource, to be added to]

Little Bars (fewer exchanges)

Pria Nutrition Bars (from PowerBar)
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: per their Web Site, 1 carb, 1/2 fat
http://www.powerbarpria.com/

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Crunch
Per .98 oz. bar: 110 calories, 5 g protein, 16 g total carbs, 3.5 g fat, 10 g sugars
Thank goodness this had a flavor listed on it, because otherwise I would have thought the flavor was "bar." Not punishing, but in no way distinguished.

Flavor: French Vanilla
Per .98 oz. bar: 110 calories, 5 g protein, 17 g total carbs, 3 g fat, 9 g sugars
Ooh la la! I am in France! What the heck makes people say "French Vanilla" when really it's just vanilla? Just asking. I'm rarely one to say anything is too sweet, but this flavor is determinedly one-note, and that note is "waxy sugar."

Flavor: Mint Chocolate Cookie
Per .98 oz. bar: 110 calories, 5 g protein, 15 g total carbs, 3.5 g fat, 9 g sugars
I knew a woman named Pria in college, and this bar is a little like her: tiny, yummy and smart. This is quite small, but if you were starving and it was in the candy rack in a store, it's a very reasonable way to buy (a little bit of) time until a meal. This flavor was nice, "chocolate-y", with the rice-krispie-ish texture of the soy puff based bars.

South Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bars (assorted box of 8)
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1 carb, 1 lean meat

Flavors: Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Cinnamon Raisin
Per 1.23 oz. bar: 140 calories, 10 g protein, total carbs: 15, total fat 5 grams
These are really pretty delicious, with a vague rice krispie treat vibe, except that sometimes the soy protein crisps give you weird, hard bits in your teeth, like microscopic wood chips or fish gravel. I'm willing to deal with that. I'm usually suspicious of cinnamon flavored things, like they're going to be Saharan or overly oaty, but it's a good flavor here. I put peanut butter as the best, chocolate as third, with cinnamon as the surprise first runner up.

Soy Joy All Natural Fruit & Soy Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1 carb, 1/2 protein, 1 fat

Flavor: Berry
Per 1.06 oz. bar: 130 calories, 4 g protein, total carbs: 17, total fat 4.5 grams, sugars 12 grams
This has an appealingly short ingredient list: Whole soybean powder, raisin (sic), sugar, butter, dried Hawthorn Berry, dried Wolfberry, brown sugar, maltodextrin, frozen eggs, red bean paste, salt, natural flavors. It's small and dry and a very different texture from the other bars: sort of like a cakey cookie, but drier. I would never have identified this as in any way berry flavored. Perhaps vaguely raisin-y. At first I thought I didn't like it, but it grew on me. If I wasn't eating healthfully, I'd run screaming, but I think this is a nice variation on the other bars, and it is low enough in sugar to eat post surgery.

Flavor: Raisin Almond
Per 1.06 oz. bar: 130 calories, 4 g protein, total carbs: 16, total fat 6 grams, sugars 11 grams
Same comments as above, but vaguely almondy. This one tastes better, because it tastes like, well, something.

Flavor: Apple
Per 1.06 oz. bar: 140 calories, 4 g protein, total carbs: 16, total fat 6 grams, sugars 10 grams
Mother of god, do not refrigerate these. This was like a rock, only harder. The flavor wasn't bad: I'd put it on par with the pleasantness of Raisin Almond.

Flavor: Mango Coconut
Per 1.06 oz. bar: 140 calories, 4 g protein, total carbs: 16, total fat 6 grams, sugars 11 grams
This was decent, but faintly disturbing; vaguely soapy. Hard and dry as above.

Special K Protein Snack Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1 carb, 1/2 fat

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut
Per .09 oz. bar: 110 calories, 4 g protein, total carbs: 15, total fat 3.5 grams
I bought these by mistake, thinking it was a box of the meal-sized bars I'd purchased before. These are tiny, and have a nice, Twix Caramel bar-like texture. They taste great, but they don't really have enough protein to make them something I'd buy again.

Big Bars

Balance Nutrition Energy Bars-Carb Well
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carbs, 1 fat
http://www.balance.com/

Flavor: Caramel 'n Chocolate
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 190 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 23, total fat 7 grams, sugars 1 gram, sugar alcohol 20 grams
The texture of this was not as oddly fluffy as the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor, but the bitter after- (and during-) taste was more pronounced. I'd skip a repeat of this one, also.

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Butter
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 22, total fat 8 grams, sugars 1 gram, sugar alcohol 19 grams
The nutritional numbers on this are almost identical to the regular Balance Bars, except that the sugars have been replaced by sugar alcohols. The price paid for that substitution is that this has an odd, soft texture that's vaguely fluffy, and just not as satisfying as the regular bars. It doesn't have an awful flavor, but if I can handle the full sugar ones, I'll skip this one.

Balance Nutrition Energy Bars-High Protein
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carbs, 1 fat
http://www.balance.com/

Flavor: Almond Brownie
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 22, total fat 6 grams, sugars 17 grams
This had a nice brownie-ish texture with no coating, which I found to be a relief. It's nice to not have to deal with the melting issue. This was lightly almondy and vaguely salty... a definite buy again.

Flavor: Caramel Nut Blast
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 13 g protein, total carbs: 24, total fat 7 grams, sugars 16 grams
This is my least favorite Balance Bar so far (also a "Gold" Bar, whatever that means): it's too sweet; more like a straight up candy bar. But it is a pretty delicious candy bar. It's not as magical as Peanut Butter or Chocolate Peanut Butter. There is a discernible film of caramel under the top layer of coating, if that floats your boat.

Flavor: Chewy Chocolate Chip
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 13 g protein, total carbs: 25, total fat 7 grams, sugars 16 grams
This tasted fine, but as a "Gold Bar", it exhibited the oozing-caramel-melding-the-bar-to-the-wrapper factor, and if I want a real chocolate chip experience (which I rarely do), I'll go with the cookie dough bar.

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Butter
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 22, total fat 7 grams, sugars 11 grams
Almost as good as the peanut butter flavor, and I ate this in the compromised "full car melt" state. There is a lot of sugar. Pleasantly chewy. This is called a "Gold" bar; I don't know what distinguishes Gold from regular.

Flavor: Cookie Dough
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 22, total fat 6 grams, sugars 18 grams
Whoa. I always think, "What's the obsession with cookie dough?" until I eat it, and I am reminded. It's salt. Salt and sugar in the spiritually elevated dance of deliciousness. This is great. Chocolaty coating I could live without because of the melting issue, but who cares.

Flavor: Mocha Chip
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 21, total fat 6 grams, sugars 18 grams
Reading the label closely is always a double edged sword. This bar is delicious, and even has the slight grit that espresso beans have, so I eyed the ingredient list to see if there was anything that elaborate in it. The front of the bar says, "Natural flavor with other natural flavor," which mystifies me as a product packaged in an English-speaking country. The coffee flavor comes from instant coffee, which is fine with me, but I also found fish gelatin. I wonder if that's one of the aforementioned natural flavors? Because then I could understand them not wanting to get more specific on the front.

Flavor: Peanut Butter
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 22, total fat 6 grams, sugars 17 grams
Allow me to say it: this is the perfect bar. It does have 17 grams of sugar, so that may be a problem further down the line, but the texture is sort of doughy, and reminds me of Kashi Go Lean bars, which I think are great, but have too little protein and too much sugar to be players here. It doesn't have the soy krispie texture, which is a nice change. The taste is very pleasant and designated-flavor appropriate: sweet without being too sugary, and it feels like a reasonable size and density to provides a snack that will stick with you for an hour or two.

Flavor: Triple Chocolate Chaos
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 13 g protein, total carbs: 24, total fat 7 Okay, I researched what the "Gold Bar" actually is: it has a layer of caramel on top of the middle and under the coating. Which reveals unto me why Gold Bars tend to suck: they've almost always exploded inside their wrappers, which makes them a mess to get out, a mess to hold, even in a peeled down wrapper, and the wrapper a mess to deal with in the car once the bar is finished. This was deliciously chocolately, but logistically a pain in the butt.

Flavor: Yogurt Honey Peanut
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 21, total fat 6 grams, sugars 17 grams
Delicious. Doughy texture, not chocolate, which is always a plus. Lightly peanut butter-y. A lot of sugar.

Kashi Go Lean Rolls
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carbs, 1 lean protein, 1/2 fat

Flavor: Oatmeal Walnut
Per 1.94 oz. bar: 190 calories, 12 g protein, 27 g total carbs, 5 g total fat, 13 g sugars
I've been staying away from Kashi Go Lean Bars, because, although delicious, they're a little high on carbs and low on protein. This one was more in line nutritionally, so I gave it a shot. Sadly for me. What the hell is this rolled in, floor sweepings? The outer layer is saharan oatmeal chips and mysterious tan micro pellets, and it just tastes like a whole lot of dryyyyy. And then, even though your tongue has taken it for the team, your teeth are called in for backup, because the inside is painfully hard and tacky: like a frozen Sugar Daddy. I took on bite and stopped. It's not worth it. I nibbled a little inside to see if the flavor was good, but it didn't seem to have any. This just ain't right.

Luna Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carbs, 1 lean protein, 1 fat
I've tended to rule these out because I thought they had too little protein for the carbs (I try to keep to a no-more-than 1/3 ratio, protein/carbs), but some of them have okay numbers, so I thought I'd try them out.

Flavor: Nutz Over Chocolate
Per 1.69 oz. bar: 180 calories, 10 g protein, 25 g total carbs, 4.5 g total fat, 12 g sugars
Again, thought it would be yummier. These have more exchanges in them for less "bang" than many other bars. No perceptably "nutty" action.

Flavor: Peanut Butter Cookie
Per 1.69 oz. bar: 180 calories, 10 g protein, 23 g total carbs, 6 g total fat, 9 g sugars
I thought this would be more delicious. It had a pronounced artificial flavor, and the waxy coating on the bottom was of no noticeable flavor. The soy crunchies were the same as in all of the crunchie-style bars.

Met-Rx Protein Plus Protein Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carb, 1 fat

Flavor: Chocolate Chocolate Chunk
Per 1.76 oz bar: 190 calories, 19 g protein, 19 g total carbs, 6 g fat, 1 g sugars, 11 g sugar alcohol
This bar is firm, and not technically flavorless, but much more dull tasting than any other bar I've tried. It tastes like the last bar left on some Eastern European grocery shelf after everyone has started shopping at the fancy new Western grocery store. There is a vaguely offputting chemica smell upon opening the wrapper. It's pictured with a moist chocolaty layer on top, but upon biting it, a cross section of the actual bar reveals three dry strata in varying shades of light brown and indistinguishable as unique components, either flavor-wise, or texturally. I'd never choose this again if anything else was available. Plus, "Met-Rx" is a terrible name for anything posing as food.

Flavor: Chocolate Roasted Peanut with Caramel
Per 1.76 oz bar: 190 calories, 19 g protein, 19 g total carbs, 5 g fat, 1 g sugars, 11 g sugar alcohol
Again, the chemical smell upon opening the wrapper, and in this case, the "caramel" layer had oozed through the edges of the bar and glued the now-even-drier bar to the foil. I wrestled it out, took a bite, and chose, for the first time in these trials, to throw a bar away rather than butch it out. This is in no way worth three exchanges. It's dessicated, flavorless, and a mess. It smells like something you should not be eating. Stay away.

PowerBar Triple Threat Energy Bar
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: information not available
http://www.powerbar.com/Products/TripleThreat/

Flavor: Caramel Peanut Fusion
Per 1.94 oz. bar: 230 calories, 10 g protein, 30 g total carbs, 8 g fat, 15 g sugars
I don't love the nutritional numbers on this: relatively high fat, not a huge whammy of protein, carbs are kind of high. The flavor is good: the experience of eating it is like eating a light candy bar. Tasty protein layer, topped with caramel and dipped in chocolate. Probably not a first choice if I had access to something with less sugar and more protein.

Flavor: S'mores
Per 1.94 oz. bar: 230 calories, 10 g protein, 30 g total carbs, 8 g fat, 15 g sugars
I have the same feeling about this bar as I did for the other flavor I tried: it's tasty, but overall not a first choice. Also, the flavor, although listed as "s'mores" has no notes of marshmallow or graham, so I guess I now have permission to start calling things like a bowl of Count Chocula or a bottle of Hershey's syrup "s'mores" flavor.

Pria Nutrition Bars-Carb Select* (from PowerBar)
*On the web site, the exact same product is shown with a label that reads "Protein Select."
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1 whole milk
http://www.powerbarpria.com/

Flavor: Cookies n' Caramel
Per 1.69 oz. bar: 170 calories, 10 g protein, 22 g total carbs, 7 g fat, 1 g sugars, 18 g sugar alcohol
This is about twice the size of the little Pria bars, and packs double the protein. (It also cost 1.37 v. .98 for the smaller bar.) The flavor is also much better: this has a coating of dark chocolate which distinguishes itself in a sea of milky, waxy coatings. The texture is a little firmer than I might choose, but there is a pleasant layer of caramel under the chocolate (which is thick enough to prevent leakage: thank you!), and little chocolate crunchies that provide that little something extra. If you like chocolate and understand that protein bars are not high quality chocolate bars, then this one's for you.

Flavor: Peanut Butter Caramel Nut
Per 1.69 oz. bar: 170 calories, 10 g protein, 21 g total carbs, 8 g fat, 1 g sugars, 17 g sugar alcohol
This was very tasty. A little more tender than the cookies n' caramel flavor, it had a less distinguished coating. The caramel layer is studded with peanut pieces, and the peanut butter layer, while pretty classic protein bar fare, is delicious.

ProCrunch-Protein Nutrition Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not reported on the package, but I am taking a stab based on the ingredient list and calling it 3 carb, 2 fat.

Flavor: Chocolate Crisp
Per 65 gr bar: 250 calories, 16 g protein, 36 g total carbs, 4.5 g fat, 25 g sugars
Same wacky bread crumb crispies as in "cookies" 'n cream below. Perhaps the least unpleasant of the flavors I've tried. And that is all I will, or can, say. Without a lawyer present.

Flavor: Cookies 'N Cream
Per 65 gr bar: 250 calories, 16 g protein, 36 g total carbs, 4.5 g fat, 22 g sugars
This is oddly flat, and the theoretical cookie texture is evoked by the inclusion of some white crunchy things that look like bread crumbs. The flavor isn't bad, but this has more exchanges than many other bars and not much excitement, so I'd go with a ProMax if I wanted a big bar. The one thing that is notable is that this is GNC's store-branded bar, and it was only $1.09, as opposed to the $2.50 or up I could pay for another bar of this size elsewhere. Or $3.00 if I got that other bar at GNC.

Flavor: S'Mores
Per 65 gr bar: 250 calories, 16 g protein, 37 g total carbs, 4 g fat, 27 g sugars
I hate s'mores, so the fact that this is in no way identifiable as being flavored as such should have no impact on my favor. That said, what is this? I'm mystified. Flat, a little gummy, a lot of exchanges. Not hell if I was on a desert island, but nothing to write home about. At all.

Promax-Great Tasting Energy Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not reported on the package, but I am taking a stab based on the ingredient list and calling it 3 carb, 2 fat. These are about 1/3 again as big as the other big bars, and calorically that matches up, as these are about 1/3 more calories. This has a nice natural ingredient list. I believe they all include beet fiber. Right on! They might have too much sugar for after surgery (they are not recommended for people with diabetes because of the sugar content), but they do have a lot of protein, and they're big enough that they could even be cut in half to make two snack-sized bars.
http://promaxnutrition.net/

Flavor: Chocolate Mint
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 280 calories, 20 g protein, 38 g total carbs, 6 g fat, 24 g sugars
This is like eating a big wad of chocolate mint Girl Scout cookie dough, with a chocolaty coating. Which equals completely delicious. I did get a little tired, not of the flavor, but of chewing and swallowing. It's pretty big.

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Crunch
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 290 calories, 20 g protein, 38 g total carbs, 6 g fat, 22 g sugars
Somewhat unremarkable: again, the word "crunch" in the name, and yet no crunch. Fine. Filling.

Flavor: Cookies 'n Cream
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 280 calories, 20 g protein, 38 g total carbs, 4.5 g fat, 27 g sugars,
This has a white yogurt-y coating, a light chocolaty center with vague chocolate crunchies in it. It's fine. Similarly satisfying to the others. These all have a good texture: solid, but not too chewy.

Flavor: Double Fudge Brownie
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 290 calories, 20 g protein, 37 g total carbs, 7 g fat, 24 g sugars
I always think flavor names like "Double Chocolatey Chocolate Brownie Fudge Chocolate Wad of Chocolate" are funny... I mean, I get it. It's chocolate. Or chocolaty. And this is. Again, it's large and like a big fadge 'o dough. Yummy.

Flavor: Honey Peanut
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 290 calories, 20 g protein, 38 g total carbs, 6 g fat, 26 g sugars
This has the same good texture as the other Promax bars, but if I want this flavor, I'd pick the Balance Yogurt Honey Peanut. It's just tastier.

Flavor: Nutty Butter Crisp
Per 2.64 oz. bar: 300 calories, 20 g protein, 38 g total carbs, 7 g fat, 25 g sugars
Hey... if it says "crisp" in the name, I want something crisp. And ain't no crisp anywhere to be seen. Hmmph. This has a light, "chocolate flavor coating", and a nice dense bite, and a pretty inoffensive taste. It's okay. I don't know if I'd get it again because of how densely caloric it is. I'd want a really good flavored bang for this buck.

Pure Protein High Protein Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: There are two sizes of this bar that I've encountered.
1.76 oz. equals 2 carbs and 1 fat
2.75 oz. equals 3 carbs and 2 fats
Bars are the small size unless noted.
This is the only bar I've seen that has more grams of protein than total grams of carbs. I'm a little scared that it says "Eat Good. Look Great." on the package. We'll see about that. Edited to add: As I've tried more of these, I've come to the opinion that this is one of the best types of bars, not even taking into account how low the sugar content is. Thumbs up!
http://www.pureprotein.net/

Flavor: Chewy Chocolate Chip
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 190 calories, 20 g protein, total carbs: 19, total fat 5 grams, sugars 1 gram, sugar alcohol 9 grams
This is appealing in the ways the flavors below are: solid, doughy texture, not too fake flavor, sweet but not cloying, a reasonable size. Better than the berry ones, not as good as the peanut butter or s'mores ones.

Flavor: Peanut Butter Deluxe
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 190 calories, 20 g protein, total carbs: 17, total fat 6 grams
Well, I don't know if I look any greater yet, but I did just eat it. This is what I've been looking for in a more substantial bar. It's not too sweet, like the Special K bars, but it is pleasingly sweetened. It has the fake chocolaty coating, but the inner peanut butter/dough-ish core has just a light coating of krispies, and it has a solid bite. I wish it was a little bigger, but the density seems to necessitate its relative diminutive measure. The flavor is neutral... not all-out delicious, but there's no weird aftertaste. I'd buy this again.

Flavor: Peanut Butter Marshmallow Eclipse (bigger bar, more exchanges)
Per 2.76 oz. bar: 280 calories, protein 28 gr, 30 gr total carbs, 9 gr total fat, 1 gr sugars, sugar alcohol 17 gr
This was on sale, hence its purchase. It could have been like a Fluffernutter, but it's too firm to give that vibe. Not a bad taste, I'd buy it again. The marshmallow layer is not gross.

Flavor: S'Mores
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 180 calories, 19 g protein, total carbs: 19, total fat 5 grams, sugars 2 grams, sugar alcohol 12 grams
I was bold to try this, since I think s'mores in real life are hell on a graham cracker, but once again this company comes through with sensitivity to food design: there's a creamy layer on top to do the marshmallow thing, and it's actually better than the sponginess of an actual marshmallow layer. The texture is dense but nice to bite into, and the flavor is better than a s'more. I'd actually buy this again. Who knew?

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Butter
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 190 calories, 20 g protein, total carbs: 17, total fat 6 grams, sugars 2 grams, sugar alcohol 6 grams
Fine and tasty and substantial. Plus, not too much sugar.

Flavor: Strawberry Shortcake (there is also a Blueberry type version of this, but I lost the wrapper)
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 190 calories, 20 g protein, total carbs: 19, total fat 4.5 grams, sugars 2 grams, sugar alcohol 11 grams
Fine and tasty and substantial, has a pleasant jammy layer on top and typical mysterious white coating, which does keep the jammy stuff off your hands.

Snickers Marathon Protein Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not reported, but based on calories and content, I'm guessing 3 carb, 2 fat
http://www.snickersmarathon.com/

Flavor: Caramel Nut Rush
Per 2.82 oz. bar: 290 calories, 21 g protein, total carbs: 40, total fat 9 grams
Who are these Snickers people, and how do they know how to make such a delicious bar? This is calorically dense, but it's also very high in protein: you could cut it in half and have 2 good snacks. And it's very good: the peanut buttery/protein layer sits on a thin caramel and nut layer, and the whole thing is coated in chocolate. This goes wrong absolutely nowhere in the realm of heavier bars.

Snickers Marathon Energy Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not reported, but based on calories and content, I'm guessing 2 carb, 1 fat
http://www.snickersmarathon.com/

Flavor: Chewy Chocolate Peanut
Per 1.94 oz. bar: 210 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 26, total fat 8 grams, total sugars 15 gr
This has a different sort of texture for a protein bar: almost like a steamrolled Tootsie Roll. It is made up of three distinct strata: a chocolaty layer, then a chewy caramel-y layer studded with peanut chunks, then a second chocolaty layer. It's delicious and fun to eat, and isn't the sort of thing that will make a mess in your car because there's no brittle chocolate coating to flake off, or caramel to ooze onto your fingers. Thumbs up.

Flavor: Chewy Peanut Butter
Per 1.94 oz. bar: 210 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 25, total fat 8 grams, total sugars 15 gr
This looks like an inside out version of the chocolate peanut flavor bar, but it tastes much more peanutty. The center is a darker chewy layer with peanuts, and the lighter outside layers have little light crunchies: like rice krispies, not like hard puffed soy bits in other bars. Again, this is neat to eat, delicious, and a nice change from the texture of other bars.

SlimFast High Protein Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 2 carb, 1 fat

Flavor: Peanut Granola
Per 1.69 oz. bar: 200 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 21, total fat 7 grams
Blech. This has the most aggressive soy krispy factor (granular, stay in your mouth long after you are grateful to have finished) I have yet encountered, and the fakest tasting coating. The less said the better. I am not tempted to try other flavors, but I may do so just to be thorough and fair. ::shudder::

South Beach Diet Meal Replacement Bars
(Lots of vitamins and minerals)
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not reported on the package, but per my diabetic exchange book, 2 carbs and 1 fat. (Interestingly, I called the 800 number on the package for the exchanges in this, and was told that "all of the information I need to make the decision whether or not this fits into my healthy lifestyle is on the box." Thanks for that.)

Flavor: Chocolate Crisp
Per 2.11 oz. bar: 210 calories, 19 g protein, total carbs: 26, total fat 6 grams
In a shocking twist, this is "chocolaty" (in that cheap, off-brand Easter candy sort of way), and again with the krispie texture. Not bad, but I like the SB cereal bars better. Still a good thing to grab if I don't have time to measure and pack food to go. I'd buy these again, but perhaps another flavor will grab me more.

Flavor: Caramel Peanut Crisp
Per 2.11 oz. bar: 210 calories, 19 g protein, total carbs: 26, total fat 7 grams, sugars 1 gram, sugar alcohol 18 grams
(Lots of vitamins and minerals)
Because of the flavor, this avoids the "chocolaty" factor, and the krispies are bound together in a butterscotch-y wad. Delish! I'd definitely buy this again.

Flavor: Vanilla Creme
Per 2.11 oz. bar: 210 calories, 19 g protein, total carbs: 26, total fat 6 grams, sugars < 1 gram, sugar alcohol 17 grams
(Lots of vitamins and minerals)
Gah! Bleah! This smelled like a new pair of shoes and tasted like licking a zero.

Flavor: Cinnamon Creme
Per 2.11 oz. bar: 220 calories, 19 g protein, total carbs: 26, total fat 7 grams, sugars < 1 gram, sugar alcohol 18 grams
(Lots of vitamins and minerals)
Forgettable, but not as punishing as Vanilla Creme.

Special K Protein Meal Bars (purchased individually)
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1 1/2 carbs, 1 fat, 1 lean protein
The numbers on these (protein/carb ratio-wise) aren't as good as on some of the others.

Flavor: Chocolate Peanut Butter
Per 1.59 oz. bar: 190 calories, 10 g protein, total carbs: 23, total fat 6 grams
Eating this was a much more straight up candy bar experience, which, granted, has its place, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for in a meal-type item. I wanted more substance. It failed to impress me with its nutritional gravity. That said, as a candy bar, it's pretty delicious. The chocolaty coating is exactly that, not chocolate. The krispy components are less gravely than the ones in the South Beach bars.

Flavor: Double Chocolate
Per 1.59 oz. bar: 190 calories, 10 g protein, total carbs: 23, total fat 5 grams
Same as the above Special K bar, except less enchanting because: less peanutty, more chocolaty. One thing I did notice, though, was that this took longer to eat than the South Beach meal replacement bars, because it's more dense. So that does recommend these bars for a future purchase. But probably the above flavor more.

ThinkTHIN High Protein Bars for an active lifestyle
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: not listed
These tend to be a little more expensive and a little higher in calories than other bars of their size, but it's nice that the protein is so high and they have no sugar. Purchased at Whole Foods.
https://www.thinkproducts.com/6think.htm

Flavor: Creamy Peanut Butter
Per 2.1 oz. bar: 240 calories, 20 g protein, 27 g total carbs (total net carbs: 2 g), 8 g total fat, 0 g sugars, 13 g sugar alcohol
This has a nice chocolaty smell upon opening, a soft, appealing bite, and a texture like a tender Balance bar. The flavor is good, with a slight aftertaste. It's good to have another sugar-free contender that's reasonably tasty.

Flavor: White Chocolate Chip
Per 2.1 oz. bar: 240 calories, 20 g protein, 25 g total carbs (total net carbs: 2 g), 8 g total fat, 0 g sugars, 15 g sugar alcohol
This is a light chocolaty bar with a white chocolate coating. There is no aftertaste, and the texture is very pleasing. I wish the white chocolate factor extended to the inside of the bar, but that doesn't impact my assessment of this as a satisfying and tasty bar.

Zone Perfect All-Natural Nutrition Bars
Diet/diabetic exchanges per bar: 1.5 starches, 1.5 medium fat meat/protein (not reported on the package, but per the support person at their 800 number: 1-800-666-6830)

Flavor: Strawberry Yogurt
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 25, total fat 6 grams
This ingredient list is less littered with artificial flavors and sweeteners, and yet it still pulls off the "fake food" thing... how do they do it? It has a slightly waxy coating that, to be fair, is pretty much like the waxiness of any "yogurt" or "white chocolate" coating anywhere. The texture is neither too chewy, dense, crispy or light: nice to the tooth. The flavor is fine, but as you approach the bar with your eating apparatus engaged, there's a faint smell of fakeness. And then, after the chewing and swallowing has occurred... after taste! After taste! As a person who is trying to embrace artificially sweetened beverages after a lifetime displeasure with them, I'm all about closing my eyes and thinking about England, but this was an aftertaste that wasn't so much bitter as disturbing. I will brave on through the remaining four in the box, and may check out other flavors, but this one will not reappear on my shelf. Unless I've been bad.
E.T.A. I ate one that had been in the fridge today, and it had no smell and the aftertaste was far less pronounced. I might actually buy this again because it had a much more substantial quality than the other krispie-esque bars. Who says I'm unforgiving?

Flavor: Chocolate Almond Biscotti
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, protein 15 grams, total carbs 22, total fat 7 grams, sugars 14 grams
This pleasanly almondy, which is really nice with the chocolate. I'm not sure where the "biscotti" element comes in, but I don't care. I'd buy it again.

Flavor: Chocolate Caramel Cluster
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 200 calories, 14 g protein, total carbs: 25, total fat 6 grams
Good, substantial, no weird aftertaste, definitely one I'll buy again.

Flavor: Chocolate Coconut Crunch
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, protein 15 grams, total carbs 23, total fat 6 grams, sugars 16 grams
This is the first bar I've found with a coconut flavor to it, and it was pretty good. A little dry, but fine. Crunchies coated with a "chocolaty" layer. I'd buy it again.

Flavor: Chocolate Mint
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 14 g protein, 24 g total carbs, 7 grams total fat, 13 g sugars
Substantial, but I don't tend to want mint in a meal substitute. It also has a lot of sugar. Too much for post surgery.

Flavor: Chocolate Raspberry
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 15 g protein, 21 g total carbs, 7 grams total fat, 13 g sugars
Spotty appearance, nothing-to-write-home-about flavor. Too much sugar.

Flavor: Fudge Graham
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, protein 14 grams, total carbs 23, total fat 7 grams, sugars 15 grams
This has a pleasant flavor, and a not-too-hard crunchy nugget texture: vaguely graham-y. I'd buy it again.

Flavor: Peanut Toffee
Per 1.76 oz. bar: 210 calories, 15 g protein, total carbs: 24, total fat 6 grams
Good, substantial, no weird aftertaste, definitely one I'll buy again. The flavor is sort of neutral. Like you could have named it after something else sweet, and you could believe that was appropriate, too.

you should try the Crystal Light Lemonaide and if you like caffiene, the Crystal Light Strawberry Splash. I really like those (they come in the individual "to go" packs). I am also partial to Crystal Light's Strawberry Tangerine Sunrise - I've only found it in the little tubs, but it's *really* yummy. Not so thrilled about the Raspberry Ice or the Orange Sunrise (tastes like grainy Tang - blech!).

Oh, you should also try the World Wide Protein Shakes. I've found them to be better than the run of the mill ones, and they have 40 - 45 grams of protein, and low in carbs.

I can't wait to see what you think of everything else.

Thanks for the tips... I never knew they had C.L. with caffeine.

I love the Zone Perfect fudge graham, Snickers Marathon, and Balance almond brownie bars. Yummy.

It's funny: I eat so many fewer of these post-surgery. But I find myself happiest with Balance Bars.
